There's no doubt that working out is a healthy thing to do. Not only does it provide your body the physical activity necessary to stay in shape, it can also be mentally beneficial for blowing off some steam when you exercise. Working out is never the problem, it's making the time to actually get into the gym and use that membership you pay so much to keep. For most people with jobs and families, making the extra time to get to the gym consistently is a major inconvenience. Luckily, there's a simple solution that can save you both time and, in the long run, money. 

The garage is the place in your home where things go to get lost. Instead of letting the clutter continue, take the time to clean up. Make space for your new home gym. You won't have to deal with driving to the gym or waiting for equipment any longer. Keep these things in mind and you can be working out at home in no time:

Get organized
The first step in this process is to organize everything that's in your garage right now. You're going to want plenty of floor space for barbells, mats and spare weights, so it's a good idea to hang as much on the walls as you can. Use hooks, cabinets and shelves for your garage wall storage needs. You can throw whatever you can't hang into organizational bins, too. The important thing here is to be efficient in your utilization of space. The more space that you clear, the more workout equipment you can fit.

Assess your needs and get the appropriate equipment
Now that you have more room to play with, you can take the time to plan out what kinds of workouts you would like to get done at your house. It's a good idea to have equipment for different kinds of activities. Free weights for lifting, mats for stretching and either a stationary bike or treadmill for cardio are all good places to start. The more types of exercise you can accomplish in your home gym, the better. After you get the basics out of the way, there are a few things that you can upgrade over time. Think about putting electronics in your garage gym. It could be as easy as a stereo with speakers to listen to your workout playlist. Since you're going to be breaking a sweat, it's a good idea to make sure you have sufficient airflow in the garage. Either an overhead or freestanding fan should work just fine.
