In order to keep your garage space as organized as possible, you must take inventory of exactly what is in there. You may find some items in your garage that can be organized elsewhere in your house. Here are a few things that belong in your garage, and some items that don't:

Don't store clothes and bedding

Unless you're planning on throwing away your clothes or linens, never keep them in the garage. The environment in your garage is often too humid to keep clothes and bedding nice and dry. Your linens or other garments may start to collect mildew and bacteria.

Do store gardening tools

The garage is a perfect location in which to keep all of your gardening tools organized. After all, you don't want to be dragging trowels and watering cans that are covered in dirt or water. You can store your tools in wall bins or on wall mount shelves for easy access.

Don't store wine

The garage might make sense at first as a great place to keep wine, because the space is cool. However, the temperatures in your garage never stay at a steady level. The constant fluctuation can be bad for your vino. High temperatures can cause your wine to age quickly. Ideally, your wine should be stored in a temperature range between 45 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

Do store workbench tools

Workbench essentials such as hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers and levels can easily be stored in the garage. Instead of keeping them tucked away in cabinets where they may be hard to find, create a tool wall. Simply mark an outline of the specific tool on the wall above your workbench so that you know exactly where each item will have to be put back. This is a quick and easy way to always keep your garage organized.

Don't store any fresh foods

Don't have room in your pantry for storing fresh food? Never turn to your garage as a solution. There are too many pests that find their way into the garage, from mice to ants and other bugs. You'll want to keep your food far, far away from them!

Do store beach essentials

From beach balls to chairs to plastic toys, these items can easily be stored in your garage. When you're ready for a family trip to the seashore, you can quickly transfer the items from organization bins in your garage into the trunk of your car.
